PAYING FOR CARE · REGULATED FINANCIAL ADVICE · SOLLA PARTNER

When the money will run out in under three years, you need a regulated adviser – and we know a good one

Care fees are the biggest financial decision most families ever make, and most make it without advice. Annuities, deferred payments, equity release, what to do with the house: FCA-regulated territory, and we are not authorised to advise on any of it. What we do is establish the care needs and the real cost, then introduce you to a Society of Later Life Advisers accredited adviser. No fee changes hands.

Introduction onlyWe introduce; the adviser advises. We never fact-find, recommend or influence a product.
SOLLA accreditedEvery adviser we introduce holds the Later Life Adviser Accreditation and is FCA-regulated.
No fee to usThe adviser charges their own fee, disclosed to you in writing. We take nothing.
WHEN ADVICE PAYS FOR ITSELF

Three situations where a regulated adviser changes the outcome

The runway is under three years

Savings that will fall to the £23,250 threshold within three years mean a council financial assessment is coming. The order in which money is spent, and what is disclosed when, has consequences. Advice before the money runs out, not after.

The house has to pay

Sell, let, defer the fees with the council, or release equity – each has a cost and a tax position. The wrong choice is common and expensive.

Fees for life are the worry

An immediate-needs annuity buys a guaranteed income for care for life, at a price. Whether it is right depends on health, fees and the estate – exactly what an adviser is for.

The rule we work toThe FCA’s introducer exclusion (RAO Article 33) lets us introduce you to an authorised adviser provided we take no part in the advice and are transparent about any payment. We take no payment. We give generic information only – never a product, a provider or a fact-find.
WHAT WE DO

What we bring to the adviser’s table

A financial adviser cannot price care they do not understand. Our contribution is the clinical and practical picture: what care is needed now and in two years, what it costs locally, which NHS and council routes have been checked and ruled in or out, and what the contract says about increases. That report is the difference between advice built on a guess and advice built on evidence.

  • Funding entitlement check (£225): CHC, FNC, s.117, Attendance Allowance and the means test, in writing, before any money is moved
  • Care needs assessment (£895): the written statement of need every fee negotiation and funding application rests on
  • Care home contract and fee review (£425): what the increases clause really says
  • Warm introduction to a SOLLA adviser covering Sussex and Kent, or Devon and the South West, with your permission

What this is not

  • We do not recommend annuities, equity release, investments, pensions or any financial product.
  • We do not carry out a financial fact-find.
  • We do not receive a fee, commission or gift from any adviser.
  • We are not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
QUESTIONS

Questions families ask

Why a SOLLA adviser and not our own IFA?

Use your own adviser if you have one you trust. SOLLA accreditation means the adviser has been examined specifically on later-life and care-fees advice, which is a specialist area most general advisers see rarely.

What does the adviser charge?

Their own fee, disclosed in writing before any work. Typically a fixed fee for a care-fees plan, or a percentage if a product is arranged. We have no part in it.

Do we have to use the adviser you introduce?

No. You can take the care and cost report to anyone.

Can you just tell us whether to sell the house?

No – that is regulated advice. We can tell you whether the house is counted in the means test, whether a disregard applies and whether a deferred payment agreement is available, which is factual information. See the family home and care fees.
