THE JOB

What a welfare visit covers

A visit is not a chat in the lounge. It is a structured clinical look at the person and the placement, with the care records open, and it ends in a document you can rely on and the OPG can read.

Presentation, mood, weight, skin, mobility and falls – against the last visit
The care plan: is it current, is it followed, has anything changed without being written down?
Medication changes, hospital visits, GP contact, incidents and safeguarding since last time
Activities, contact with family and friends, how the person spends a day
The money side: fee schedule, increases, top-ups, personal allowance, anything being charged that should not be
What to raise with the manager, and whether a review, a capacity assessment or a placement change is due

Beyond the visit

Capacity reviews

A gift, a property sale, a tenancy, a change of care: assessed for that decision, recorded to the Code, £450 or £795 for two.

Best-interests support

Where the person lacks capacity, we prepare the best-interests record and attend the meeting – £165 an hour, two-hour minimum.

Review attendance

CHC reviews, s.117 reviews, care reviews – prepared and attended so funding is not quietly withdrawn.

Placement change

Care search and assisted visits when the current placement is failing; contract and fee review before anything is signed.
