About care in East Sussex
Who is responsible locally
Adult social care assessments and funding are run by East Sussex County Council for most of the county, and Brighton & Hove City Council for Brighton and Hove. NHS Continuing Healthcare is managed by NHS Surrey and Sussex, the integrated care board formed in April 2026. We know how these teams work, and we can sit alongside you at assessments and meetings.
Hospitals and discharge
The main hospitals are Eastbourne District General Hospital, the Conquest Hospital in Hastings and the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. If someone is being discharged, we can help you understand the options, check the plan is safe and make sure the right assessments happen.
Choosing a care home or care at home
We research and visit homes and providers independently, and we are not paid by any of them. That is the difference between a recommendation and an advertisement.
Paying for care
We explain how the council means test works, whether NHS funding could apply, and what the real weekly cost is likely to be – before you commit to anything.
Common questions about East Sussex
Do you cover my town in East Sussex?
Yes. The towns above are examples, not limits – we help families across the whole of East Sussex, in person and by phone or video.
Can you help when someone is leaving hospital in Eastbourne, Hastings or Brighton?
Yes. Hospital discharge is one of the most common reasons families call us. We can help you understand the discharge plan, the funding position and the care options, and make sure the right assessments are done.
Do you charge travel costs in East Sussex?
Most of East Sussex is within 35 miles of our Eastbourne base, so the price you see is the price you pay. Further out, a fixed travel fee is quoted before you book.
Do you take commission from care homes or agencies?
No. We take no commission or referral fee from any care provider, ever. You pay us, and only us, so our advice stays independent.
Can you help if I live far away from my relative?
Yes. That is one of the most common situations we deal with. We can be in the room while you join by phone or video.
