About care in Hampshire
Who is responsible locally
Adult social care assessments and funding are run by Hampshire County Council, with Southampton City Council and Portsmouth City Council covering their own cities. NHS Continuing Healthcare is managed by NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight, which since April 2026 also covers the parts of north-east Hampshire that used to sit with Frimley. We know how these teams work, and we can sit alongside you at assessments and meetings.
Hospitals and discharge
The main hospitals are the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Southampton General Hospital, Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth and, for the north-east of the county, Frimley Park Hospital. If someone is being discharged, we can help you understand the options, check the plan is safe and make sure the right assessments happen.
Choosing a care home or care at home
We research and visit homes and providers independently, and we are not paid by any of them. That is the difference between a recommendation and an advertisement.
Paying for care
We explain how the council means test works, whether NHS funding could apply, and what the real weekly cost is likely to be – before you commit to anything.
Common questions about Hampshire
Do you cover my town in Hampshire?
Yes. The towns above are examples, not limits – we help families across the whole of Hampshire, in person and by phone or video.
Can you help when someone is leaving hospital in Winchester, Basingstoke, Southampton or Portsmouth?
Yes. Hospital discharge is one of the most common reasons families call us. We can help you understand the discharge plan, the funding position and the care options, and make sure the right assessments are done.
Do you charge travel costs in Hampshire?
Within 35 miles of our Eastbourne base, the price you see is the price you pay. Further out, there is a fixed travel fee, quoted before you book – so you know the full cost up front.
Do you take commission from care homes or agencies?
No. We take no commission or referral fee from any care provider, ever. You pay us, and only us, so our advice stays independent.
Can you help if I live far away from my relative?
Yes. That is one of the most common situations we deal with. We can be in the room while you join by phone or video.
