LOCAL KNOWLEDGE

About care in Kent

We know the local teamsCouncils, hospital discharge teams and NHS funding panels across Kent

Who is responsible locally

Adult social care assessments and funding are run by Kent County Council for most of the county, and Medway Council for Rochester, Chatham and Gillingham. NHS Continuing Healthcare is managed by NHS Kent and Medway, the integrated care board for the county. We know how these teams work, and we can sit alongside you at assessments and meetings.

Hospitals and discharge

The main hospitals include Maidstone Hospital, Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury, the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, Kent and Canterbury Hospital, the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate, Medway Maritime Hospital and Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford. If someone is being discharged, we can help you understand the options, check the plan is safe and make sure the right assessments happen.

Choosing a care home or care at home

We research and visit homes and providers independently, and we are not paid by any of them. That is the difference between a recommendation and an advertisement.

Paying for care

We explain how the council means test works, whether NHS funding could apply, and what the real weekly cost is likely to be – before you commit to anything.

QUESTIONS FAMILIES ASK

Common questions about Kent

Do you cover my town in Kent?

Yes. The towns above are examples, not limits – we help families across the whole of Kent, in person and by phone or video.

Can you help when someone is leaving hospital in Maidstone, Pembury, Ashford, Margate or Medway?

Yes. Hospital discharge is one of the most common reasons families call us. We can help you understand the discharge plan, the funding position and the care options, and make sure the right assessments are done.

Do you charge travel costs in Kent?

Within 35 miles of our Eastbourne base, the price you see is the price you pay. Further out, there is a fixed travel fee, quoted before you book – so you know the full cost up front.

Do you take commission from care homes or agencies?

No. We take no commission or referral fee from any care provider, ever. You pay us, and only us, so our advice stays independent.

Can you help if I live far away from my relative?

Yes. That is one of the most common situations we deal with. We can be in the room while you join by phone or video.
