LOCAL KNOWLEDGE

About care in Wiltshire

We know the local teamsCouncils, hospital discharge teams and NHS funding panels across Wiltshire

Who is responsible locally

Adult social care assessments and funding are run by Wiltshire Council, and by Swindon Borough Council for Swindon. NHS Continuing Healthcare is managed by NHS Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire (BSW). We know how these teams work, and we can sit alongside you at assessments and meetings.

Hospitals and discharge

The main hospitals are Salisbury District Hospital, the Great Western Hospital in Swindon and the Royal United Hospital in Bath. If someone is being discharged, we can help you understand the options, check the plan is safe and make sure the right assessments happen.

Choosing a care home or care at home

We research and visit homes and providers independently, and we are not paid by any of them. That is the difference between a recommendation and an advertisement.

Paying for care

We explain how the council means test works, whether NHS funding could apply, and what the real weekly cost is likely to be – before you commit to anything.

QUESTIONS FAMILIES ASK

Common questions about Wiltshire

Do you cover my town in Wiltshire?

Yes. The towns above are examples, not limits – we help families across the whole of Wiltshire, in person and by phone or video.

Can you help when someone is leaving hospital in Salisbury, Swindon or Bath?

Yes. Hospital discharge is one of the most common reasons families call us. We can help you understand the discharge plan, the funding position and the care options, and make sure the right assessments are done.

Do you charge travel costs in Wiltshire?

Within 35 miles of our Eastbourne base, the price you see is the price you pay. Further out, there is a fixed travel fee, quoted before you book – so you know the full cost up front.

Do you take commission from care homes or agencies?

No. We take no commission or referral fee from any care provider, ever. You pay us, and only us, so our advice stays independent.

Can you help if I live far away from my relative?

Yes. That is one of the most common situations we deal with. We can be in the room while you join by phone or video.
